Does Fear Control You?
In part one of this article we talked about what part of your brain “takes over” your body in extreme threatening situations and how fear, especially prolonged fear, has the potential to really damage your health.
Fear can be stronger than cement in keeping you stuck. People are scared of not being liked, of not being good enough, of possible terrible situations they envision for the future, scared to do something, scared of their financial wellbeing, scared to act, scared to change things, scared to say “no” to other people, scared of being alone, scared of illness, scared of loss, scared of ….death. There are so many ways in which fear keeps you stuck I would fill pages mentioning them all and I would probably leave out a couple of hundreds. Often people don’t even know consciously what scares them but unconsciously they respond to all these fears. So many fears could be irrational (meaning without conscious rational explanation).
If you really pay attention carefully, you will realize that fear controls you. When you make your decisions based on avoiding things that scare you, or when you make no decisions and take no action because of fear, you aren’t in control of your life. Fear is.
Time Line Therapy® is a set of techniques that allow you to let go of your fear and retain the strategies and learnings for avoiding things that could harm you – BUT without the fear element.
If you care about being in control of your life, you have to do that. You have to let go of your fear. Not “control” your fear, “not get to know your fear”, not “face your fear”, etc. LET IT GO! Understand that your life is worth living to the fullest – you cannot do that if you live in fear. If you don’t control your life, somebody else will do it for you through fear.
Once you let go of fear, you can do something that in the past could have scared you, and now it doesn’t. Then and only then you take back control over your life. Then you will get to know powers inside you that you never knew before and only then you will begin to wonder – how was it possible that I was so stuck before now? And then, you can really begin to create your life and your future and feel empowered.
Every one of you can relate to the following: you thought that some terrible things would happen in the future and then… they did not happen. You did not act in any way because you were afraid. You did not go for what you wanted. You did not take a decision that you wanted…you gave up. Fear controlled you even if it was only in your head. Nothing bad happened.
Letting go of PAST fears with Time Line Therapy® techniques, does not mean you will never experience fear in the future. I am pretty good at Time Line Therapy®, and yet, if a lion gets in the room with me I would run immediately. I would not sit calmly thinking that I don’t have any fear. So Time Line Therapy® does not transform you into a robot.
But my point is that there is no purpose for keeping fears from the past in your memories. Keep only the learnings, the strategies and the awareness. This WILL keep you safe in the future.
That will allow you to get more control over your life, more power and choice. It is a process of learning and personal growth.
