How Is Your Lack of Confidence in Speaking Restricting Your Income?
The importance of being a confident and persuasive public speaker has never been greater. This is especially true if you are a business owner or have a strong ambition to share a message that will influence others. The internet, as well as the increasing number of networking events and conferences, provide myriad opportunities to build your authority, expand your opportunities, create new streams of income, and promote social causes. All of these depend on your willingness, not simply to get up on stage, but to then present your message with persuasive conviction.
Public Speaking was Listed as the #1 Fear for Over 73% of the US Population!
The National Institute of Mental Health famously declared that, “Many people fear speaking in public more than they fear death.” This suggests that more than 70% of people at a funeral would rather be in the coffin than delivering the eulogy!
I hope that doesn’t describe your feeling, but clearly a lot of people hate standing up in front of an audience and speaking in spite of (or possibly because of) their years of practice in school and university. Unfortunately, this aversion could be costing you money and opportunity to influence others.
It’s NOT A Question of Your Nerves!
You would be surprised at how many influential people, even public figures and actors, actually feel terrified before they stand on stage or start a presentation, that is because they care about the outcome and effect they will have on the audience.
A certain level of nervous energy and excitement is good for your presentation and provides the energy and human connection that engages your audience. Without this energy your message can feel flat and uninspiring and leave your audience unmoved. However, excessive nerves, or a sense that one’s presentation is lacking in general appeal can also ruin its effect.
Why Are You Confident that Your Presentation Will Be Effective?
In Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) we talk about the importance of setting S.M.A.R.T. goals with a difference and using Time Line Therapy® to reinforce this process. When it comes to your presentation, the “R” for Realistic needs to be backed by your underlying confidence in the structure of your presentation, your thorough knowledge of your subject, your careful choice of words and language, and your ability to engage your audience and deal with their responses is excellent. A poorly designed or badly delivered presentation does not demand a great reception.
How Can I Learn to Present More Effectively?
The Tad James Company NLP Trainers’ Training program teaches all these skills in just 16 days of intensive learning and practical application and provide you with the resources and knowledge to present confidently every single time. Many of our students are already comfortable presenting, but they all take their skills to another level during the course.
Reinforcing Your Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) and Your Presentation Skills
All students present various aspects of NLP so the subject matter is familiar to everyone. This serves two purposes:
- It enables students to grasp the material they have learned in their NLP Practitioner and Master Practitioner courses more firmly; and
- Other students can reinforce their own understanding of the material (especially the language patterns).
Using this common body of knowledge provides a clear focus for all the presentations and enables students to give feedback to one another on topics with which they are already familiar.
Some of the Important NLP Skills Learned Include How To:
- Give positive feedback to others;
- Give critical feedback to others;
- Structure an effective presentation;
- Fully engage the audience using all the different representational systems;
- Use stories and examples effectively;
- Create intrigue that keeps your audience’s attention to the very end of every presentation (even throughout a multi-day conference):
- Establish rapport with groups;
- Deal with hecklers and other potential disruptions.
It is always fascinating to watch the development of students through the duration of the course. Their growing confidence is reflected in their general deportment, enthusiasm, and their willingness to participate fully and receive both positive and negative feedback. It changes their whole attitude to challenges which is quickly reflected in the speed at which they achieve their personal and business goals.
